Feeling like something sweet to start off your weekend? This quick and easy French toast might be just what you are looking for! A classic breakfast dish, French toast is prepared by dipping slices of bread into a mixture of milk, egg and sweeteners and then frying them in butter until golden. Soft and fluffy, with caramelized edges and a cinnamon-y scent, it will set your mood for the day. It’s also a lot of fun to make, so get everyone in the kitchen and run this little project together!
Preparation tips for Fluffy French Toast:
- Use thick slices of brioche bread. It is supple and rich with a moist, buttery texture that results in a light, airy French toast.
- Add some sweet warm spices to the milk and egg mixture. Cinnamon is a classic, but you can also use cloves or nutmeg powder. A few drops of vanilla extract help create a caramel-like, creamy flavour.
- Take your time soaking the bread. Make sure that the bread has absorbed enough mixture to moisten through.
- When frying, keep the heat on medium. This will allow enough time for the toast to cook inside while keeping it from burning. You want your toast to reach an attractive golden finish and a warm, melting texture.
Serving suggestions:
Sweet French toast goes really well with fresh berries like blueberries, raspberries or strawberries. You can also top with a few slices of ripe banana and drizzle with honey or maple syrup. If you want it sweeter, sprinkle with more ground cinnamon or powdered sugar. And I even know someone who smears a generous layer of Nutella all over it 😀
